6 June 2016 - Walking around Jalan Besar and Jalan Mahkota

2016年6月6日:走走鹹魚街/前街和後街。
Welcome to my new blog. (Older blog:) This is my first post of the blog, just planned to upload photos of what I have taken at Jalan Besar and Jalan Mahkota.

More photos coming soon... also have to discover the history of Jalan Besar and Jalan Mahkota.
As what I know, Jalan Besar was known as "Salty Fish Street" because there were many shops that sell salty fish butt now only left a few. Jalan Besar is also somehow known as 前街 in Chinese, "front street". Jalan Mahkota was known as "Wall Street" and in Chinese, 後街, "back street". Correct me if I am wrong. (目前正探索前後街的歷史,若有錯誤請指教。)
There are a convenience store and a grocery shop at Jalan Besar as shown in the above photo. Well there was a tourist bus stopped here and let the tourist buy items from the shops this morning haha.

There are a lot of CNY 2016 posters that I like in that convenience store mentioned above. Unfortunately I didn't ask the shop owner for some huhu.

New F&N Ramadan flagline is hung outside of  a shop at Jalan Besar.

Ditto, closer view.

Retro bicycles in a locked shop.

"Bombay Shop" (middle) that is mentioned by some local vintage lovers there... Closed down already?!

Old retro Chinese-styled signage. Shown Yee Chen Tukang Mas (怡真金舖) and Wah Heng Kedai Jam dan Chermin Mata (華興鐘?、眼鏡)

Haha, why are the mosquito rackets hanging in front of the shop called Soon Woh Co. (順和公司)?! Selling these rackets?

Yong Soon (永順), the well-known distributor for many products including Coca-Cola and Nestle in Kuantan. Originally located at Jalan Besar, but now relocated in Indera Mahkota. However this retro Chinese-styled signage is still exist in front of a shop that was its original location.

Yong Soon's lesen beras borong (Rice wholesale license) is still exist beside the shop that has the retro signage.

There are many Chinese words remained on the pillars at Jalan Mahkota. Shown 許紹欽醫務行 (still exist) and 吳春芳.

Abandoned? No, the workers were cleaning their shop during the first day of Ramadan this year.

Cheong Kee Locksmith (祥記鎖匙配製中心). Notice that the 製 (simplified 制) at here is written like [up 制, down 二].

Sg. Wang Cake Shop (金河西餅屋) painting remains on the wall.

Restoran Seri Gemilang signage sponsored by Pepsi but placed on the back of the shop.

The Cottage Restaurant (發記) has been closed down.

Passed by Old Town at Jalan Mahkota. The Ramadan promotion.

Simply take... the back of the Jalan Besar shops. (from Jalan Mahkota)

Kwong Onn Medicine Shop (廣安藥行酒莊) at Jalan Mahkota. Look at the old-styled signboards.

Photo of the Red Bull stickers that are expired in 7-Eleven at Jalan Besar.
